The vacations aren't over yet

The friends) are packing their bags again. Netflix has handed The Four Seasons a third season, guaranteeing more sun-soaked squabbles and tender reconciliations from its tight-knit group of long-married couples, according to Variety. The news broke not in a press release but on stage, where Netflix scripted series chief Jinny Howe revealed the renewal during an on-stage conversation with Variety's Michael Schneider at the Banff World Media Festival.

For Steve Carell, the pickup extends one of the most visible television runs of his recent career. The comedy, co-created by Tina Fey, has given Carell a relaxed, ensemble-driven showcase a world away from the high-wire roles he has chased on the film side, and the renewal keeps him tethered to a property that has quietly become a dependable performer for the streamer.

Who's coming back

The heart of the show has always been its chemistry, and Netflix is keeping the cast intact. Variety reports that Carell will be joined once more by Fey, Will Forte, Colman Domingo, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani and Erika Henningsen, preserving the constellation of couples and friends whose entanglements drive the comedy.

That continuity matters for a series built on shared history. The premise leans on the audience believing these people have known each other for decades, and reshuffling the lineup would risk the lived-in warmth that critics and viewers have responded to. By bringing everyone back, the show protects the very thing that distinguishes it.

How the next chapter is shaped

The third season will run eight episodes and stick to the structure that has become the show's calling card, per Variety. Each pair of episodes unfolds at a fresh vacation destination, letting the characters confront love, aging and the bumps of lifelong friendship against a rotating backdrop of getaways.

Key details on the renewal:

  • Renewed for an eight-episode third season
  • Announced at the Banff World Media Festival
  • Full main cast, including Steve Carell, set to return
  • Produced by Universal Television alongside Little Stranger, Inc.

That seasonal, destination-hopping rhythm gives the writers a built-in engine for reinvention. New locations bring new tensions, new temptations and new excuses to throw these characters together, all while the emotional throughline of enduring partnership stays constant.

A confident send-off into Season 3

The creative team celebrated the renewal in characteristically playful fashion. "We are thrilled to be able to bring a third season of 'The Four Seasons' to life," they said, according to Variety, before tossing out a cheeky rallying cry: "Thank you to everyone who watched. Middle-aged people, LFG!"

Netflix's Tracey Pakosta echoed the affection, telling the outlet, "It's been a joy watching the chaotic, beautiful journey of these lifelong friends... Audiences have fallen in love with these characters."

For Netflix, the decision reads as a vote of confidence in grown-up, character-first comedy at a moment when the platform is leaning into reliable, returnable franchises. For Carell, it means another reunion with collaborator Tina Fey and another season inside a show that has turned middle age into prime comic territory. Expect the next batch of episodes to keep mining that vein, sending its friends somewhere new while the questions of love, time and loyalty travel right along with them.

This show flew under the radar but it's a genuinely warm hangout comedy with a great ensemble. Eight more episodes with the full cast back is exactly what I wanted to hear. Netflix actually renewing the quiet gems for once, I'll take it.
